What do you think is the biggest problem when working in a foreign country?
00:00 / 00:00s
Insert paragraph here...
From my own experience, there's a very
negative phenomenon
is that people tend to try too hard to adapt to a new working culture, without having
proper personal boundaries
to protect their own rights and
wellness
. For example, in Norway, where I used to work, the government really put an
emphasis
on
maintaining the mental wellness
of its citizens, so daily tasks were very
reasonably allocated
, working hours were 9am to 4pm, and
working overtime
is absolutely not encouraged, since you are expected to finish your work within office hours. However, in complete contrast, in HoChiMinh city, there seems to be this mindset that you have to
hustle non-stop
at all hours of the day in order to be successful in life. Companies here really make use of
this way of thinking
to force their employees to work overtime and make plenty of
extra contributions
, and yet most people here seem to be very okay with it. Such a difference could really create a
shift
in working performance, and yet I see that many tend to
overlook
this problem when choosing jobs, since they seem to think that they have to adapt to anything to make money, even risking their mental health in the process.

How can leaders encourage their employees?
00:00 / 00:00s
Insert paragraph here...
I think in order to properly encourage employees, firstly, leaders and managers actually need to spend time doing what their staff do. What I mean is that, sometimes leaders have been “leading” for too long that they start to forget how it is to be the person doing the actual work and
the actual struggles
that comes with it, and as a result, long-time leaders tend to provide very
general encouragements
and
sage advices
like “Your hard work isn’t going unnoticed” or “Don’t work harder, work smarter” without knowing that, to employees who are already
strung out on stress
, these words sound very
out of touch
and can even make them feel more frustrated. Therefore, leaders need to actually
lower their ego
, and
put in the work
to see what their employees are
going through
, and from that experience, they can actually provide the right
incentives and encouragements
, and really have their employees look up to them.

What kinds of jobs need imagination?
00:00 / 00:00s
Insert paragraph here...
I think there are plenty, but one job that I could think of right now is being a teacher. One significant reason for this is that, when making
teaching programs
, teachers cannot just make the lesson
however they want it
and
force
it on their students, they have to
imagine and predict
how students of different level would react to certain
elements
of the lesson, and from those
scenarios
, they could design and create activities that can truly help students understand what they are learning.
