The local culture department
 said Thursday that there would be no fireworks displays
 on Lunar New Year's Eve this year. It will be the second year in a row that HCMC will not have Tet fireworks displays, after the cancellation due to Covid-19 last year.
Other events and activities to commemorate Vietnam's most significant holiday
, such as street decorations
 and other celebrations, will go forward as scheduled
, according to Vo Trong Nam, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports

It’s likely that this decision was also made due to fears of a Covid-19 crisis
. It’s unfortunate, but given the complex situation of the pandemic
, it’s understandable. Previously, HCMC had also decided against firework displays for the Gregorian New Year's Eve
 this year because of the pandemic situation.
