﻿In the wake of
 the recent Covid-19 outbreak, authorities in HCMC decided to put a stop to the long-standing custom of fireworks displays
 on Lunar New Year's Eve.
The decision was made after a potential community transmission
 was detected in HCMC on Saturday, involving a 28-year-old male who works at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. He's currently in isolation at the Cu Chi field hospital, where he'll be treated. His younger sibling, who lives in the same residence in Binh Duong Province, was also infected with the new coronavirus. The health ministry has yet to confirm the two cases.

The southern metropolis
 previously planned to light fireworks at eight spots on Luna New Year’s Eve, including two high-altitude venues
 near the Saigon River Tunnel in District 2 and Vietnam's tallest skyscraper, Landmark 81 in Binh Thanh District.
